‘The Hills: New Beginnings‘ Is Officially Getting a Season 2, and Here‘s What You Need to Know About It

By | October 1, 2020

Get ready to wipe away your Lauren Conrad mascara tears before they even fall, because The Hills: New Beginnings is getting a second season. That means more Justin Bobby, more Pratt family feuds, and more ridiculousness. The last season feels like it aired three years ago at this point, but hopefully we’ll be getting some more drama in the near-ish future. Here’s everything we know so far (which, admittedly isn’t much).

It‘s happening!!

Sorry to repeat myself, but the news is official. MTV announced it in July 2019, before the first season of the reboot had even finished. New Beginnings is obviously a very different show than the OG, and you can probably expect that to continue into season 2.

If you didn’t end up watching the first season and somehow made it into this post, here’s what the show focuses on: “The title says it all—New Beginnings. This time around the cast are 30-somethings and many are at a pivotal crossroads in their personal and professional journey,” Nina L. Diaz, president of entertainment for MTV, told The Hollywood Reporter. “The cast let us into their lives to reveal some of the truths of their new reality and their real emotions as they experience these new beginnings.”

Their filming style is going to look a bit different.

A production source from the show told TMZ that they may have the cast members live in the same home or complex for a month or two in order to wrap up season two. They had filmed some parts earlier in the year, but were forced to stop due to the pandemic.

Not sure what to expect if this is true, but it definitely sounds like it’s gonna come with even MORE drama. Imagine some of these people living together! Pure chaos. Ugh, you know we love to see it.

Kristin Cavallari will make an appearance.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight back in March, Kristin revealed that she was going to be in the latest season of New Beginnings. “I don’t know what I can and can’t say… Yeah, I’m going to make an appearance on The Hills,” she said.

This is pretty crazy considering Kristin is in the midst of a very public and kind of rough divorce with ex Jay Cutler right now. But it’s possible she filmed her portion before that news broke? Gah!! Who knows what could happen!

Stephanie Pratt might not return.

In a truly bizarre Instagram post, Stephanie eluded to the fact that she won’t be returning for the second season. She called her brother evil and had this to say about Heidi: “and Heidi—I have no words for how evil you truly are.”

She did thank Justin for being her “rock” during the season, but basically she was like, “I’m out.” That was last summer, though, so who knows whether something has changed between then and now.

And Mischa Barton won’t, either.

Yep! We’re losing a full two cast members. TMZ reported that production sources said Mischa’s storylines were a little too bland, so she wasn’t asked back for the second season. IDK how much I believe that, but that’s the report. She’s allegedly being replaced with Caroline D’Amore, who is apparently a famous person. Back in March, Mischa responded pretty poorly to that news. She wrote:

“Lol. Where do people get their reporting from? As if anyone would watch @CarolineDAmore try to hoc her boring ass pasta bowls ?? and greasy pizza on tv. Tried that it was like watching paint dry. ? Get the story straight first. @UsWeekly.”

We might get a glimpse of Heidi’s music career.

In one episode from last seaon, Heidi talked to Justin about how she wanted to revamp her music career.

“I’ve had a lot of time in the past few years to reflect, and one of the biggest things in my life is being a Christian. So, I really want to put out a great, faith-based, positive song,” she told him.

“I feel like now, where I’m at, is more of a heartfelt, Christian vibe. [It’s] pop music, but there’s a Christian message. It’s just one song, but I want to do something good and send out a positive message to the world.”

So maybe that’ll be a plot for season 2? TBD!

This post will be updated as more info about season 2 becomes available.
