Fast Foods and Antibiotic Resistance

The overuse of antibiotics in food animals has  contributed to the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria.  Consumer and health organizations graded the routine use of antibiotics in 25 of the largest fast food chains. They concluded that the industry has a long way to go before the public can eat beef that has come from antibiotic free animals.

 

Of 21 chains that serve beef, 15 got an F for not having a policy in place to eliminate antibiotics in food animals diet. Only Chipotle and Panera earned A’s.
