Exclusive: A 700-Pound Man on TLC's Family by the Ton Explores Weight-Loss Surgery

TLC’s Family by the Ton, a spinoff of its hit reality series My 600-lb Life, offers sobering insights into the realities of people struggling with obesity. One such example on the new season of Family by the Ton—which premiered January 2 and is airing every Wednesday—is Casey King.

King, who weighs over 700 pounds and lives with his father in Georgia, spends much of his time in bed playing video games. “I was just eating ’til I’m dead,” he said in the premiere episode of this season. “I never would’ve thought at 34 I’d be living with my father, I’d have no job, have no real money, and just be playing video games all day and eating.”

But King is eager to change. TLC provided Men’s Health with this exclusive clip from the upcoming episode, in which he visits Dr. Procter about bariatric surgery, a category of surgery performed on people who have obesity that includes gastric bypass. King is seen nervous as he approaches his appointment time.

“I’m a little anxious to get on the scale and find out how much I weigh,” King says in the car with his dad on the way to the doctor’s office. “I’m sure the diet that they’re going to want me to be on is going to be absolutely nuts.

“I fear surgery in general but if I don’t change, in five years I could be immobile, where they’re forklifting me out of my room,” he adds.

King is indeed asked to weigh in when he enters the office, and takes off his flip-flops to reduce the weight reading on the scale. He looks fearful as he sees the number go north of 600.
