Work vs Life: How To Create Balance

By | December 20, 2018

It isn’t always easy to juggle everything. We’re always conscious of spending more time with family, eating healthily and exercising, but with the average person working 40 hours a week, it can seem like an impossibility. So, how can you create a balance between work and life?

Our working hours as a wellness copywriter are usually set, but that doesn’t mean we stick to them. Some people wake up and check their emails immediately. Some people go home from work and spend the evening answering emails. Leave work in the workplace. The bad thing about technology is that we have access to our emails wherever we go. Some of us even have a dedicated tone on our phones when a work email comes through, and the dreaded sound can send shivers down our spines. Learn to leave work alone during downtime.

Learn To Say No

When everyone wants something from you, it can be difficult to say no. In fact, many of us end up saying no to our families before saying no to our bosses. If you’re being overloaded with work on a regular basis, it may be time to have a word with your boss. You’re only human, and soon enough every human gets overwhelmed with copious amounts of work. If you have a full plate and someone else asks for a favour, it’s okay to say no. It’ll be better for you and them in the long run.

Take Breaks

It’s important to wind down every now and then. Whether it’s making sure you take your full lunch break or booking yourself a well-deserved holiday, you deserve some time off. You don’t need to go and do anything special, you just need to focus on yourself for a while. Anything from a session of corporate yoga during lunch to taking the day to slouch on the sofa watching movies can have a huge benefit on your mind and body.

Work Constructively, Not Longer

Many people tend to think that they’ll get more done and earn more money by working harder and sleeping less. This couldn’t be further from the truth. When your body doesn’t get enough rest, your mind will miss something. The quality of your work will suffer. Instead, it’s important to find smarter ways of working. Find solutions to your problems and get things done faster. That way, you can still produce quality work at a higher rate and have time to rest in between.

Stop Energising Yourself

To keep up with a work schedule, many of us will head to the gym, drink energy drinks or coffee. The energy rush helps to create focus at work, but that rush will soon turn into a crash and then you need another adrenaline fix. When this happens, it’s hard to come down and switch off. It’s even difficult to spend time with family and friends because you’re always onto the next thing on your to-do list. Do what you can, and leave the rest for another time. Image Unsplash.
