A young mum has posted photos of the injuries she received as she tried to protect her infant daughter from tennis ball-sized hailstones.
Fiona Simpson from Kingaroy, Queensland was in her car with her baby and grandmother, about 130 miles north-west of Brisbane when she drove into a storm.
The massive hailstones smashed through the car’s windows. Fearing for her child’s safety Ms Simpson put her body on the line.
Recovering in hospital later she posted photos on Facebook of her battered and bruised back and shoulders and described what happened.
“I’ve learnt my lesson today, never drive in a hail storm!” she wrote. “I covered my infant with my body to stop her from getting badly injured.
“My entire back, arms and head are badly bruised. “I’m just so relieved that my daughter and grandmother are alright.
“Please, please be careful in this storm season. I know I’ll be sore tomorrow, does anyone know of a cream or ointment that will help with the bruising?”
